![]() Hi Friends! Every couple of years Dave and I follow our own advice and take time to retreat into nature, sleeping under the stars and exercising every day. This year, after being chased out of Canada by dense wildfire smoke, we found our perfect retreat in the stunning back-country of the Grand Tetons, Wyoming. (click here for pictures from our trip). And as part of our travels we were lucky enough to checked-in with a couple of Wind River alum in Colorado and Tennessee (be sure to check out Jennifer Motycka and April Brown's inspiring stories later in this newsletter). Our time out west reminded us of the on-going need to simplify and take time to slow it down and smell the roses. That said we are happy to be home and welcoming our fall retreat guests starting this Thursday! Looking forward, we suggest you 'treat yo self' to a really cool event being hosted by Haylo's Healing Arts Lounge in Charlotte's hip Plaza Midwood on Saturday October 24th. All donations will benefit future survivors attending a Wind River Cancer Wellness Retreat. And lastly, this month Dave and I are were touched by Page Leggett's feature article in The Charlotte Observer about how cancer changed our lives (for the better). My favorite part of the article was how Page highlights Dave's philosophy about The Power of Choice, including Be Open to Possibilities, Don't Rush It, Save and Don't play the Victim. (For the full article click here.) Wishing everyone a happy fall! Shannon & Dave ![]() ALUMNI SPOTLIGHT Long time alum April Brown, and her husband Paul Brown just released a beautiful new CD of music for a healing. Motivated by friends and family living with cancer and Alzheimer's, this talented couple wanted to produce unique soulful sounds that provide calming and soothing responses to those frequently stressed and frightened. So, following their first album, co-created with Dave and Shannon (Wind River's Healing and Relaxation double CD), they took to the studio again! (Paul is a Grammy nominated producer in addition to the keyboard player touring with The Waterboys) April and Paul and their production team have donated 50 CD to future cancer survivors at Wind River Retreats! THANK YOU! April is living with metastatic breast cancer and has been a member of the Wind River family since 2009! She credits Wind River with sparking her re-discovery of art, learning to play the Native American flute, and deep inner healing. We credit her with renewing our passion for music and non-stop laughter! And if you wish to order a copy of this album, order here. (Download for only $12.99) .
