It was so cool, this morning I was driving to the pool at 6:30am and I heard about a 5K run and family walk in Asheville on New Year's Day at 2pm. It also has a silent auction. Sound interesting as the title was Karen Kick's Cancer. At the very end I heard them announce that this was for OUR Karen (a Wind River Alum - on the right in the picture)! It is a fundraiser to help Karen with debts and also to support a great local women's health clinic. The Karen Kicks Cancer event is scheduled for 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 1. Sponsored by the Asheville Track Club, the non-competitive run will begin at Carolina Day School (1345 Hendersonville Road, Asheville) and take participants along a rolling, four-mile course through Biltmore Forest. The event also includes a two-mile walk, random prizes, a raffle and a silent auction. Registration for the event is $15 and is available online now at runsignup.com. Participants also will be able to register beginning at noon on the event day. Proceeds from the race will benefit Asheville resident and cancer survivor Karen Chávez and the nonprofit Hope Chest for Women. For more information about the run, including how to volunteer, email ashevillenctrackclub@gmail.com. |
