What can YOU do to prevent Colon Cancer??
1. Local funding to the Colon Cancer Coalition is provided by the Charlotte based fun run called Get Your Rear in Gear which will be held on Saturday March 28th - mark your calendar and sign up for the Wind River Team (sign up here)!
2. Be a Super Hero to your family by making sure you step up and get screened if you are due (or past due). * Colon cancer is PREVENTABLE 91% of the time when caught early!
Colorectal cancer (cancer of the colon or rectum) is the third most common cancer in the United States and the second leading cause of death from cancers that affect both men and women, BUT it is preventable if caught early! You should get checked starting at age 50 unless you are at higher risk from smoking, are African American, have a family history of colorectal cancer or are exhibiting symptoms like bloating or changes in bowel habits. Play it safe, check with your physician or a GI specialist with any concerns.
And as always, get plenty of physical activity and eat healthy (it reduces your risk of all types of cancer AND heart disease)!
